Corner Shelves for Home Storage and Display

If you live in a small house or apartment, the chances are you are a bit short of storage space. In fact, even larger homes can suffer from clutter because of lack of sufficient space to store accumulated possessions. It stands to reason, though, that the smaller a place is, in terms of square feet per person, the greater the space pressure is likely to be.

To make the most of storage space in a small home, you really do need to plan carefully. That applies to every room in the house or apartment, as well as the wood shed in the yard and the overflowing garage, if you are lucky enough to have one. The use of corner shelves in the home can help out in many instances, making use of space that would otherwise not be utilized. Those shelves can be open shelves, or within cabinets. It all depends on the room, and what you want to store there.

A quick examination of each room will tell you whether you have corners that have enough space to put up a shelving unit of some sort. That is, if you have a storage problem in that room, however small. If you decide corner shelves will help, then it is a matter of choosing the appropriate cabinet or open shelf set that is most appropriate.

Corner shelving tends to be used for smaller items, but if you plan for something heavier to be stored or displayed on them, ensure your shelving brackets are strong and firmly fixed. Apart from that, the main practical issue is finding a corner cabinet, or set of open shelves, that blends with existing décor, and is big enough to accommodate what you need it to.

Where in the home might corner shelves be most appropriate? The bathroom, kitchen and living area spring to mind, but every home is different. Perhaps the kitchen is the most likely to benefit. You will find that the best planned modern kitchens make use of the corners for storage of dried foods, spices, or some other things the household cook needs handy.

If you find your bathroom a bit littered with shampoos, soaps, hair conditioners etc, a corner of the shower area could be made home to a free standing shelving rack, or wall mounted equivalent. That would be handily placed for those things you might need while having a shower.

In the living room, there has been an increase in storage pressures over recent years, due mostly to modern technology. While CD and DVD storage racks may not be best suited to corners of the room, they could absorb some of the storage problems, while corner shelves could be used to house other items that might have been displaced by your multimedia collection. Also, speaker shelves may fit into corners, if that is where you think you will get the best sound effects from.

A Garden Tool Rack for Keeping Gardening Tools Just Where You Want Them

It’s amazing how many people keep a nice neat garden all summer, but when it comes to looking for their garden tools are so disorganized they might have trouble finding the smaller tools. There’s a fair chance it is lying on the floor of the wooden shed, where clutter and disarray rules. Larger equipment might be visible, but even something like a mower may be part buried underneath boxes or other debris from inside the home, garage, or the garden itself.

Of course, the better organized will have nice neat garden tool racks on the wall of their garage or backyard shed. Some may even have a separate lock up storage unit with a rack or shelves for small tools, and another for larger implements like spades and large forks. A true garden lover is likely to have a traditional shed for this purpose, and already have everything well organized.

If you are seeking to improve your tool organization, then the choice of available racks is quite wide. There is no obligation to use a rack at all, but they do tend to be more suitable than wooden shelving, where the tools are not so easy to organize safely and securely. If you do use shed shelves, always ensure the shelving brackets are strong enough for whatever it is you want to store there.

Now, back to buying a purpose made garden tool rack. Garden tools are varied in shape and size, so they do benefit from have storage purposely designed for them. They are not entirely standard in size, but at least if the rack is designed with understanding of the gardeners need, the end result is likely to be better than just any old shelf, hook or bracket.

As you can see from the picture above, which is from Stack and Stacks, a well designed tool rack can keep your implements and tools looking neat and tidy. This particular design stores both large and small tools, including full size lawn rakes, spades, forks and hoes, as well as small hand tools like a trowel. Such a good design can encourage even the least tidy of gardeners to get themselves organized. And, once organized, more likely to get all the tools on display cleaned up for display.

There are lots more designs in various price ranges and sizes. Large wall tool organizers may accommodate most if not all your tools, while small magnetic racks may just hold a few hand tools. For those who like to move things around for convenience, a tool rack with wheels might be the answer!

The Role of Storage Racking in the Modern Home

Keeping a home looking spick and span is more than going round the home with a vacuum cleaner and cleaning cloth. It is also about good organization, and ensuring that all your possessions have a “home” where they can be stored, and even more importantly, found. Searching in vain for something you know you have, but is nowhere to be seen, can be a frustrating experience.

Keeping the place tidy is partly, if not mostly, about attitude. If you are determined to have a tidy home, then you will. However, if things have got out of hand, and the clutter has turned your home into something resembling a landfill site, it could well be that the frustrations will come to a peak. When they do, and you can’t find something you need urgently, it could be the spark you needed to determine, once and for all, to sort out the mess and get organized.

With the right attitude to keep a tidy home, what remains is having the right storage racking, cabinets, wardrobes and shelves in the places where you actually need them. It also helps to be ruthless about disposing of things you don’t need, rather than hang on to them so they had to your storage needs.

The main places where you can expect to use storage racking to good effect are in the garage, the kitchen, bathroom and the garden shed. More recently, though, with the growth of multimedia, there is now a demand for CD and DVD storage racks, most likely in your living room.

Racking can be either open, which is traditionally what we think of when we conjure an image of a rack, or enclosed within a cabinet. In the kitchen, for example, you may have plate racks under the countertop hidden from view, with a ceiling rack above for hanging pots and pans.

It is in the garage that you may find the most need for more elaborate, weight bearing racks. This is especially true if you can no longer fit the car in the garage, forced out by bulky items like bikes. Overhead garage storage racks are a great space saver, and there are some excellent modern designs which will accommodate a lot of your difficult to store gear. Bike hoists are very useful in freeing up ground level storage space.

Overhead storage systems in the garage, plus the use of wall racks, can relieve many of your clutter problems. While there may be some expense involved, they can carry quite a load if needed. This can be a solution to your largest problem item: the car. A large number of Americans cannot fit their car in the garage, so there is no need to be one of them.

In the garden, a metal, plastic or wood shed can be given similar racking treatment to the garage. However, please ensure that beams supporting overhead racks in particular are adequate to bear the load.

CD Storage Racks to Keep Your Music Tidy

There is no doubting that CD’s were a great innovation in the world of music, and later computing. However, they did give us another problem for a while: how can you store CD’s in a way that is both neat and tidy, and that makes them easy to sort and find.

The rapid birth and spread of CD storage racks soon solved that problem, until now we have a great variety of home furniture to store both CD’s and DVD’s. All depends on your tastes in furniture, how many CD’s you have and are likely to have, and where you want to keep them in the home.

Racks for your CD collection can come in all sorts of sizes, from a small desktop rack to go by your home pc, to a large storage tower in the living room that may accommodate hundreds of CD’s. In practice, you may need different types in different rooms, especially if you have a computer in the home office, or have children whose music tastes you would prefer kept to their bedroom.

For the main family collection in the living room, which may be extensive, you have an opportunity to buy a nice piece of furniture that will enhance your décor. After all, your music collection is not something you will want to store on a wooden shelf in the garden shed. You probably want them to have pride of place in the main living area inside your home.

If you have a large music collection on CD, for example more than 1000 CD’s, then you have a wonderful choice of cabinets, wall mounted and free standing CD storage racks to choose from. If you imagine the variety of traditional wood bookcase designs there are, then you can imagine what is available for CD’s. Only, there is more, as revolving or spinning CD towers are an innovation that never really applied to home bookcases.

Wall mounted CD storage is a real space saver, and can be quite handy if you want to keep your toddlers away from them. A four door Mission style cabinet from Leslie Dame, for example, comes in Cherry, Walnut or Oak, and with the glass panels are an attractive décor addition to your home. You can also get apothecary or library style designs, whatever suits your tastes and can house your CD collection.

Take a good look around at the storage racks available for your CD’s as well as DVD’s. You could be pleasantly surprised.

Organizing The Kitchen Using A Pantry Rack

Are your freezer and refrigerator getting crowded?  Perhaps a little organization can help. Organizing the kitchen and other rooms in your house can seem like a hefty task but using a few different types of pantry organizers and supplies can help you get what you need to be done.  Whether you need help storing your non-perishables or the produce in your fridge, using the information below could provide some guidance in organizing your kitchen.

The refrigerator is often the first stop when it comes to organizing your cooking “cuisine”. A kitchen pantry rack is available to help you organize your condiments, drinks and other small food items. These racks come in thin metal or plastic for easy flexibility and customization.  There are also great for storing open wine bottles, sodas, and other large drink containers that cannot fit in standard door racks.  When searching for a kitchen pantry rack, be sure that you have the right dimensions.  This is important when buying any needed addition to the home, and getting the wrong size is a common mistake in furniture shopping.

Spices and ingredients are also great for storing in your kitchen pantry.  Kitchen pantry racks are available that come with containers or small jars to store everything from your cilantro and basil, all the way to your chopped onions and garlic.  A kitchen pantry rack is essential for the chef of the house.  When cooking, organization is not only a matter of making the kitchen look good, but a pantry rack also helps to maintain quality control and safety in the kitchen.  Keep cutlery and silverware in their proper place, along with condiments and ingredients. A messy kitchen can often times be frustrating and if you can’t find the things you need while you’re cooking, you can burn your meal or even worse, make terrible tasting food! Stay on top of your kitchen organization, its essential to managing a good palette.

A pantry rack and organizer in the kitchen can also help by providing space for your non- perishables.  Cans, jars, and boxes can often take up a lot of space on shelves and kitchen cabinetry.  Try using a kitchen pantry rack in the storage closet or add a few of them to the pantry in your kitchen.  These racks provide extra rows for all the kids granola bars, potato chips, and those huge jars of Campbell’s® Soup.  A kitchen pantry rack is also portable and easy to move.  Their versatility lets them come in handy even outside the kitchen, if you ever need extra space for your footwear, hats, or accessories.
